NOT QUITE A CONCERT

50 people turned up to listen to “Not quite a concert” on Saturday afternoon at Gingins Church.

Two of our congregation, Jeremy Burrows and Jane Djate, were joined by two friends to form a string quartet. The instruments played were two violins, one viola and one cello. The quartet played beautifully and everyone really enjoyed the concert.

The programme started with a piece by Schubert, composed in 1824, entitled Death and the Maiden, Quartet in D minor D810 – First movement. Apparently, this piece of music is considered one of the most powerful and significant chamber works of the Romantic era.

The second part of the programme was music by Dvorák – The American Quartet in F major Opus 96 with 4 movements. This was written in 1893 and the four pieces were actually composed in 15 days.

The last part of the programme we were challenged to recognize the pieces that were being played!

Afterwards we gathered in the church hall for tea and cakes. All proceeds were donated equally between La Côte Anglican Church and the host church – Paroisse de la Dôle.
