The All Age Holy Communion Service in Gingins on the 4th Sunday in Lent celebrated Mothering Sunday.
The service started with an explanation of why it was Mothering Sunday:
We were told it is a day of celebration of
– The gift of children to mothers
– The gift of mothers to children
– The gift of those who show motherly care to any of us, especially in our community
At its very best, motherly care reflects God’s love for all of us.
There was a very good attendance for all ages of our community – ranging from the very young with parents and grandparents to some of our oldest
members of our community. One couple were there celebrating their 23rd Wedding Anniversary along with one of their children.
There was a corner provided for the very young children with activities and toys for them to occupy themselves after listening to a story. The rest of the congregation continued with the sermon and worship.
After receiving Holy Communion there was a blessing of Mothering Sunday flowers which the children distributed during the last hymn.
The final blessing: May God, who watches over the children like a mother hen over her chicks, bless and keep you and all those whom you love…..
