Sunday 31st August was the first in a series of celebrations on the theme of Creation. The idea is to nurture active hope in caring for our beautiful world.
We met in the church at Crassier for an all-age Holy Communion service with a pot-luck lunch afterwards. The church was beautifully decorated with a butterfly theme which was the subject of the first talk.
As people arrived they were given a clip-on butterfly decoration. Sarah French gave a talk on the life of a butterfly and how important they are in our world. There was a very energetic hymn about butterflies where we learnt actions to the words.
During the second talk, about how we can help protect our beautiful world with reflecting on the damage we are doing and how to avoid it, the children moved to an area provided for them where they could look at and create beautiful colourings of butterflies. Afterwards these were displayed on a notice board at the front of the church.
At the end of the service the treasurer and Council secretary shared with the congregation a summary of our last Council meeting and invited the congregation to be in touch with any council member with any issues they might like to be discussed at further Council meetings.
After the service we enjoyed a delicious pot-luck lunch organized by the Social Events team. There was a warm and convivial atmosphere with people chatting, getting to know each other, generally enjoying being together and sharing food.
A verse from one of the hymns:
Help us as guardians of all life on earth
both to respect the world and prize its worth;
and, in deep gratitude for all you give,
turn greed to sharing so that all may live.
