Statement of accommodation for refugees
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25)
I just want to take a minute to create awareness of a particular need in our area. Some of you may have seen that your communes are now asking if you have space to house a refugee as a paying tenant. What you may not be aware of though, is that this is a critical aspect of a refugee’s ability to integrate and become productive. Since without a private address, a refugee who has been given a permis to stay in Switzerland cannot re-enter French language courses, be eligible for other state funded training or enter into employment. Therefore, it is critical for them to find a place to live in order to be a productive member of our society.
The Swiss government provides roughly 600 to 650 francs per month, directly to the landlord, for a studio apartment. However, refugees are typically discriminated against by landlords and find it extremely difficult for many reasons to be able to secure their own housing. So I am reaching out to you to see if you are able to consider this or know of someone who might be able to help. As you may know, we do work with a number of them in our area and some of us can vouch for their integrity. So if you are interested or know of anyone who might be, please speak with Anne Dyer to learn more. Anne herself has welcomed Abel into her home and knows more of the details to help you make an informed decision.
In good condition (mainly casual) for young men, along with shoes, belts, hats, scarves, gloves and wallets. If you have any questions, please contact Anne Dyer on 022 369 11 17. Thank you!

Secondly, if you would like to know more about how to help locally with refugees, there is another file explaining what is going on in the La Côte area.
