All About Us

Back in the mid 1980s a group of Anglicans began to meet for regular worship together in and around Coinsins and Trelex. Many of them were commuting into Geneva for work, and wished that they could meet locally, rather than travel in to Holy Trinity on Sundays.

They soon fell in love with the Church at Gingins and started to meet there initially on a monthly basis. The church has a simplicity and atmosphere that attracts all who worship there. Dating back to the 14th Century, the Temple de Gingins offers a spiritual home that spans Catholic and Protestant eras.

The congregation worked hard over the years to build a broader congregation and to meet more regularly. Successive Holy Trinity chaplains and other local clergy encouraged and supported this evolution.

In September 2003, Paul Holley was licensed as chaplain to La Côte. This marked a major step forward to establish the congregation as a viable independent chaplaincy. After a steady increase in numbers the congregation decided to start another service in Divonne. This opened in September 2005 and saw swift growth to form a new committed group amongst those who live in the town.

La Côte is therefore a single community comprising 2 congregations, 4 home groups and various other activities. It is seeking to develop regular worship now in the St. Prex/Morges area. This one community comprises a whole range of people from diverse backgrounds. We have an Anglican foundation which draws in many Catholics and people from more independent protestant traditions. We pursue a liturgical style of worship within a relaxed and creative atmosphere. We have a strong commitment to our work with children and young people, but also offer adults a stimulating programme of prayer and reflection.

Who's who

Revd Paul Holley became the first chaplain of La Côte in 2003. He was ordained in 1994 after having previously worked in the personal finance industry. His 9 years of ministry prior to coming to Switzerland were spent in the diocese of Manchester, UK. He worked in an inner city parish in Salford for 5 years where he developed an interest in church-based community development projects.
Julia Chambeyron was ordained deacon on July 1st, 2006, and then made priest a year later. Before that she was a lay reader at La Côte for 4 years. Julia lives in Divonne and has taken a leading role in developing the congregation there.
Anna Blanchard is our new Youth Intern starting September 2007.

John & Peta Tracey have been at the heart of the development of La Côte since it first began as a prayer and study group in their home. John is chair of the La Côte Anglican Church Development Association. Peta is responsible for our Godly Play programme at Gingins.
